Study Clock
Want long breaks and stats too?
Study Clock runs one calm session at a time on an analog dial, with a study journal beside it. For rounds of focus blocks with a long break after them, a task to work on and stats of the blocks you finish, open the Pomodoro timer.
Open Pomodoro timerAn analog clock on warm paper for study sessions you start and stop yourself, with a break after each.
Study Clock is an analog clock on warm paper, made for study sessions you start and stop yourself. Set how long you study and how long you rest, 25 and 5 minutes to start, and nothing runs until you press Start, so the clock waits while you settle in. Arcs on its rim mark where the session ends, in terracotta, and where the break after it ends, in sage, so a glance at the dial tells you how much is left; a session longer than an hour keeps to the same rim, with the minutes the hand will come round to again drawn in a deeper shade. Beside the dial the time left counts down, with the hours when there are any, as in 1:22:30, and two quiet lines under it say when your break starts and, with the journal on, how many sessions you have done today.
Start, Stop, Skip break and Continue sit in the options at the bottom, along with What are you studying?, so the face keeps to the clock; they fade with the options when you leave the page alone, and a move or a tap brings them back. What are you studying? takes an optional subject before you start, with your recent ones a tap away, and it is saved with the session. When the session ends the break begins, and Skip break cuts it short; then the clock asks Another session?, with Continue or Stop. Stop ends a session at any time. Settings, in the options at the bottom, takes a session from 10 to 90 minutes and a break from 5 to 30, five minutes at a time. Turn on Sound for a soft chime as each session and each break ends; it stays off until you do. Settings also holds the 12-hour or 24-hour clock and Bedside, the screen stays awake while the page is open, and Fullscreen leaves just the paper and the time.
Beside the clock sits a study journal. Today’s card changes when you open the page, start, rest or finish a session — never in the middle of one. A small plant grows one leaf for every day you study and flowers on its 21st leaf. Settings, under Journal, adds This week, your focused minutes day by day; Recent sessions, which asks what you studied; and a short note on last week every Monday. All of it stays in this browser, with no account.
Preguntas frecuentes
How do the study sessions work?
Press Start and one study session runs, 25 minutes to begin with, then the break after it. When the break is over, the clock asks Another session?: Continue starts the next one, and Stop takes the clock back to Ready. Stop ends a session at any time, and Skip break cuts a break short. These buttons sit in the options at the bottom and fade with them when you leave the page alone; a move or a tap brings them back. Nothing starts by itself, so the clock waits for you between sessions and, with the journal on, keeps count of how many you have done today.
Can I note what I’m studying?
Yes, if you like. Before you press Start, What are you studying?, in the options at the bottom, takes a subject, and your recent subjects are a tap away. While you study it shows on the face, in the line with the time your break starts, and it is saved with the session in the journal. Leave it empty and the session is kept all the same.
What do the arcs on the rim mean?
They mark the session on the dial, in the minutes the minute hand sweeps: terracotta for the study session and sage for the break after it. Where the terracotta stops, the break starts; where the sage stops, the break is over. A session longer than an hour keeps to the same rim: the minutes the hand will come round to again are drawn in a deeper shade, and the countdown shows the hours, as in 1:22:30.
Can it chime when a session ends?
Yes, if you want it to. Turn on Sound in the options at the bottom and a soft chime plays as each session and each break ends, while the page is on screen. It is off until you turn it on, it stays quiet while sound is off in the site’s Settings, and your choice is remembered in this browser.
What is the study journal?
A quiet record of your study, kept beside the clock. Today’s card is an illustrated note that changes when you open the page, start, rest or finish a session — never in the middle of one. The plant grows a leaf for each day you study. This week shows your focused minutes for each day, Recent sessions lists your last sessions with what you studied and asks about any you started without a subject, which you can skip, and on Monday a short note looks back on last week. Each part is a switch in Settings, under Journal; on a first visit only today’s card and the plant are on. Dim while studying softens the journal while a session runs, so the clock comes first.
How does the plant grow?
One leaf for every day you study. A day counts once a session of at least 10 minutes has been kept that day, and it counts once however many sessions you do. A missed day never takes a leaf away: the leaves stay, and only your rhythm, the count of days in a row, starts again. On its 21st leaf, three weeks of study days, the plant flowers. There is no score and nothing to lose.
Where are my sessions kept?
In this browser, on this device; there is no account and nothing is sent anywhere. With the journal on, any part of it, every session you start counts: it is kept when it ends, and if you press Stop after 10 minutes or more, the minutes you studied are kept. The journal is included when you export a backup and comes back when you import one. Clear the journal, in Settings under Journal, erases every session and leaf, after asking once.
How is Study Clock different from Focus Clock?
Study Clock times your study sessions and breaks on an analog face, one session at a time, with a journal beside it; Focus Clock is one quiet grey clock with the task you’re on under the time, and no timer at all. Different jobs.
Is it a Pomodoro timer?
Close to one: 25 minutes of study and 5 of rest is the Pomodoro rhythm, kept on an analog clock one session at a time. It has no rounds or long breaks, and keeps a quiet journal, not a score; the Pomodoro timer has rounds, long breaks and stats, with a task to work on, and runs happily in another tab.
Can I use it for study-with-me streams?
Yes. The warm paper reads cleanly on camera or a shared screen, and the countdown shows everyone watching how long is left of the session.
Will my screen stay on?
Yes, while this page is open, in browsers that let a page keep the screen awake; Keep screen on, under Bedside in Settings, turns it off. Fullscreen, in the options at the bottom, fades the controls away and leaves the paper and the time.
Can I use it on the main clock?
Yes. “Make this my clock” saves the Study face as your main clock without leaving this page, and the note that appears links to it. The journal comes along too: it shows on the Study face there, with the same switches. Your study and break lengths, Sound and the journal are one setting for both; there, change them in Style, under Study.
