Love Clock
More cities to keep?
Love Clock keeps one city beside yours. For family and friends in more places, World Clock shows as many cities as you like side by side, with the time difference to each and a map of where it is day and night.
Open World ClockYour time and your partner’s side by side, and a heart to send across the distance.
Love Clock is a clock for two people in different places. Your time and your partner’s sit side by side on a soft blush screen, each with its city and the part of the day it is there, from morning to probably asleep, so a glance tells you whether it is a good moment to call. A small heart beats between the two times, and beneath them the clock keeps count: the day you are on together, the days until your anniversary, a countdown to the next time you see each other, and how many hours ahead or behind they are.
Add your names, their city, the day you got together, the next time you meet and a short message in Edit details, in the options at the bottom. Until you do, it shows only your own time and nothing made up. Tap the heart and a handful of hearts burst out of it. Send a heart shares a link, and when your partner opens it, hearts burst on their screen with your message and your name. There is no account and no server behind it: the link carries only the message and your name, after the # in the address, and everything else you enter stays in this browser.
Keep it open through a long-distance relationship, while a partner works or studies abroad, or for the weeks before you meet again, on a desk, a bedside table, a spare monitor or a propped-up phone. The screen stays awake while the page is open, Fullscreen in the options leaves just the two clocks, and it runs in the browser on a phone, tablet or computer, with no download and no sign-up.
Questions fréquentes
Is anything sent to a server?
No. Your names, their city, your dates and your message are saved in this browser only, and are included when you export a backup. A heart link carries just two things, your message and your name, after the # in the address. Browsers do not send that part to a server when they open a page, the site’s visitor counts are recorded without it, and the page takes it out of the address bar as soon as it opens. It is encoded, not encrypted, so anyone who has the link can read the message.
How does “send a heart” work, and does my partner need an account?
No account on either side. Tap Send a heart in the options at the bottom, or tap the heart on the clock and then Send, and your device’s share sheet opens with a link; where there is none, the link is copied for you to paste into a chat. When your partner opens it, hearts burst on their screen with your message and your name, and they can send one back or set up a Love Clock of their own. All they need is a browser.
How are the days together counted?
From the date in Together since, counting that day as day 1, so the next day is day 2. They are calendar days where you are, so the count moves on at your midnight. The anniversary countdown runs to the same date each year; if you got together on 29 February, it falls on 28 February in the years without one.
What happens on our anniversary or the day we meet?
On your anniversary the line reads Happy anniversary all day. Before a meeting it counts the days and hours to the start of that day, says See you tomorrow on the last day before it and See you today on the day. Once the day has passed, the countdown disappears until you add the next date in Edit details.
Does it handle daylight saving and half-hour time zones?
Yes. Their time comes from their city’s time zone as it is at that moment, so both clocks move when either of you changes the clocks for daylight saving, and the gap between you changes with them. Zones that are half an hour or 45 minutes off the hour, such as India, Newfoundland or Nepal, show the right time, and the gap reads to the quarter hour, such as 5.5 h ahead.
Will my screen stay on?
Yes, while this page is open, in browsers that let a page keep the screen awake, so it can sit on a desk or a bedside table. Fullscreen, in the options at the bottom, fades the controls away and leaves the two clocks.
Can I use it on the main clock?
Yes. “Make this my clock” saves the Love face as your main clock without leaving this page, and the note that appears links to it. Your details are one setting for both; there, edit them in Style, under Love.
