Cozy Clock
Working?
Pair it with Focus Clock: a quiet grey clock with the one thing you’re working on written beneath it. Leave the rain playing here in another tab.
Open Focus ClockA warm clock by a rainy window, a crackling fireplace or falling snow.
Cozy Clock is a calm, relaxing clock with the time in a warm serif over a scene to settle into: rain running down a window, a crackling fireplace, or snow falling outside. Each scene has an ambient sound to match, so a spare screen becomes a rainy window, a virtual fireplace or a snowy winter evening, with the time in the middle of it.
The weather reaches the clock. Rain splashes on the digits, runs down them and drips off, and lands on the options bar at the bottom too. Snow drifts down and settles on the numbers and the bar, building up in soft caps that slowly melt. The fire lights the time from below with a flicker, and each minute the old time crumbles to ash as the new one glows in. Sparks rise from the coals, some stick under the digits, cool to ash and flake off, and a tap or click on the scene stirs the fire and sends up more. Tap Sound for rain, a crackling fire whose loud pops throw up sparks, or a soft wind. It is made in your browser as it plays, so there is nothing to download or stream.
Leave it on in a reading nook, beside you while you study or work from home, or on a TV or spare monitor as a virtual fireplace or a rainy window. It is a gentle clock to wind down with in the evening, too. The screen stays awake while the page is open, Fullscreen in the options leaves just the scene and the time, and it runs in the browser on a phone, tablet, computer or TV, with no download and no sign-up.
Questions fréquentes
Where does the sound come from?
Your browser makes it. Each scene is noise shaped by filters into rain, a crackling fire or a soft wind as it plays, so there are no audio files to download, nothing is streamed, and it needs no connection once the page is open.
Why doesn’t the sound start by itself?
Browsers only let a page play sound after you tap something on it, and a clock that bursts into noise is not very cozy anyway. Tap Sound to start it. If you left it on last time, the button says so, and one tap brings it back.
Can I change the volume?
Yes. While the sound plays, a volume slider sits beside the Sound button, and the level is remembered for next time. The sound is separate from alarm and timer alerts, so turning those off does not silence it.
Can I play with the fire?
Yes. On Fire, tap or click anywhere on the scene to stir it: the fire flares and throws up a shower of sparks. Some sparks stick to the undersides of the digits, glow, cool to ash and flake off, and each minute the old time crumbles to ash as the new one glows in. With Sound on, the fire’s loudest pops send up sparks too. If your device is set to reduce motion, the fire holds still instead.
Will my screen stay on?
Yes, while this page is open, in browsers that let a page keep the screen awake. Fullscreen, in the options at the bottom, fades the controls away and leaves the scene, and the sound keeps playing.
Can I use it as a virtual fireplace on my TV?
Yes. Open this page in your TV’s web browser, or on a laptop plugged into the TV, pick Fire and choose Fullscreen: the controls fade away and the fire fills the screen around the time. Rain and Snow work the same way, for a rainy or snowy window. The page asks the browser to keep the screen awake; if the TV’s browser does not support that, its own sleep timer may still step in. You can also cast the tab from Chrome to a TV with Chromecast built in. There is no TV app or cast button of its own, so the tab has to stay open on the computer while it plays.
Is it free?
Yes. Cozy Clock is free, with no ads, no account and nothing to install. The scenes and the sound are made in your browser, and your scene and volume are remembered in this browser only.
Can I use it on the main clock?
Yes. “Make this my clock” saves the Cozy face as your main clock without leaving this page, and the note that appears links to it. The scene is one setting for both; there, change the scene and the sound in Style, under Cozy.
